Future Volunteers: Packing

Fellow future PC Volunteers and SOME of our luggage, shortly before we set off for the airport last June.

My fellow volunteer, Beth, has done a truly amazing job of documenting what she packed for Peace Corps Moldova service on her blog.  Rather than re-invent the wheel, I’ll just leave you a link to her Packing Advice.

If you are a future volunteer headed for Moldova (or somewhere nearby) by all means please take a look at this! But do bear in mind that every volunteer’s service is different (you’ll hear that a lot, if you haven’t already — because it’s true!)  For me, one example was dresses. I’m not real comfortable wearing them to teach and I stressed a lot after reading that some volunteers felt they were pretty much required at their schools.  Where I teach (in a larger town), it’s perfectly acceptable to wear nice slacks with a dressy top.  In my particular situation, the overall look (dressy) has been more important than specifically wearing a dress.

I mention this for two reasons: 1. If you’re stressing about wearing dresses, you can stop! and 2. Every volunteer’s service is different (where did we hear that before?).  If you’re still reading, good for you.  Now go click on that link! And get ready for an awesome adventure.

P.S. I have to add: Bring a laptop!  If you read anything that says not to, ignore it.  If you own a laptop, bring it. You need it. 🙂
